Amitabh Bachchan’s debut on the small-screen with Kaun Banega Crorepati revolutionised television viewing. Bachchan, with his quiet wit and inimitable persona, charmed the viewers and Star Plus, the channel on which the show was aired, became numero uno overnight. He also set the trend of filmstars adventing on TV.
Bachchan then bowed out after season 2, returning five years later with Bigg Boss 3, which did not exactly gel with his persona. Sony then brought him back on KBC season 4 Bachchan, bringing viewers to the flagging channel and bringing it up in the top channels.

Madhuri Dixit made a comeback on TV after a decade — she had hosted a matchmaking show Shubh Vivaah — and was a superhit.
As a judge in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa on Sony, Madhuri once again won many hearts with her million dollar smile and mean moves and will be back for the next season.

Shah Rukh Khan returned to his roots, the small-screen, with KBC 3 on Star Plus by replacing Amitabh Bachchan. SRK, with his sense of humour and charisma, did his best on the show but comparisions with his predecessor were inevitable, which probably affected the ratings. Also, by then viewership had got fragmented with many channels in the fray.
SRK then hosted Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? but it did not garner good TRPs. His latest, Zor Ka Jhatka, on Imagine too was not a hit, though there are talks of season 2.

Before Celebrity Big Brother happened to her, Shilpa Shetty had judged Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, which was no great shakes.
After her win in the international show, Shilpa was roped in to host the desi version of Bigg Boss which did well on the ratings chart.

Salman Khan was a hit on 10 Ka Dum as viewers saw him in a new affable, warm and friendly avatar. He went on to do two seasons of the show and even as talk of the third was going on Salman shifted to another show Bigg Boss on Colors, which offered him huge moolah.
Bigg Boss 4 garnered good ratings for the channel, which has now announced Bigg Boss 5 with the actor.

Rani Mukerji made her TV debut with the dance reality show Dance Premiere League on the lines of IPL. Aired on Sony, the show failed to impress.

Disco dancer Mithun Chakraborty was roped in as the grandmaster to judge Zee’s dance reality show Dance India Dance three years ago. Since then, the actor with his warmth, friendly banter and advice is a viewer favourite. No wonder, he is all but become a permanent feature on the show which has been consistently registered good ratings.

Akshay Kumar was the face of Colors when it launched four years ago. The adventure and stunt reality show with Khiladi Kumar and 13 glamorous girls was a hit and he went on to do the second season. With his no-nonsense attitude and dare devilry, Akshay instantly connected with the viewers.
The star, who gave the third season a miss, is back this year. He also hosted a cookery show MasterChef India –– on Star Plus but it wasn’t as popular as his adventure show
. 

           Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra was chosen to host this adventure show when Colors linked it to the Indian Premier League and 13 cricketers were to be roped in. But the plan fizzled out when BCCI denied permission to cricketers and Priyanka landed up with 13 actors and models.
It had a spectacular opening of 5.5 but subsequent episodes averaged at 3.1.
